Since its inception
in 1999, the Wenatchee Valley Sports Council has striven to help others, especially youth, participate in sports.
Through its Scholarship Fund, the Wenatchee Valley Sports Council has assisted hundreds of individuals and groups with
over $19,000 granted. In addition, the Charlotte Martin Fund has helped the Wenatchee Valley Sports Council
provide over $38,000 in coaching grants, clinics and awards.
Now, a new step has been taken to further expand the Sports Council’s
philanthropic goals with the creation of the Wenatchee Valley Sports Foundation. A completely separate
501(c)3 organization, the Wenatchee Valley Sports Foundation will focus on fundraising and providing scholarships and grants
while the Sports Council promotes Wenatchee Valley sports tourism and development.
Creation of the Wenatchee Valley Sports Foundation has created a new buzz of excitement among the Sports Council, which is
brimming at the possibilities. The Foundation will immediately take on the challenge of organizing and
hosting the 33rd Annual O’Terry’s Lads and Lassies co-ed softball tournament in August. Proceeds
from the event will be split between Washington State Special Olympics and the Sports Foundation’s Scholarship Fund.
Last year, over $2,000 was raised for the Scholarship Fund from the tournament.
Be on the lookout for additional events and fundraisers to come in the upcoming year. Also,
the Wenatchee Valley Sports Foundation will look to expand the grant capability of the Scholarship and Charlotte Martin Funds.
